Nick Brandt photographs these calcified bird remains at Lake Natron in Northern Tanzania. The high natron levels come from a nearby volcano and is home to a few fish that can withstand the high pH levels; all other animals that become immersed in the water die and become calcified, giving them the appearance of having been turned to stone.
The stills are incredibly evocative of tranquility and stillness but there are also brutal elements of death. There seems to be no time here, only a balance between preservation and decay. These are really powerful images and would make great visuals I think.
