QOTSA Promotional Animation – …Like Clockwork

For their 2013 album …Like Clockwork, QOTSA commissioned British artist Boneface to provide drawings which were then stylistically animated by Liam Brazier. Totalling 15 minutes, the animation is divided into 5 tracks from the (then) forthcoming album with the animations “chronicling a solitary protagonist making their way through a city-beyond-saving.” “The tales rupture into one another to create a jarring narrative of violence and debauchery.”

As well as being cool as fuck, this is an example of bands sourcing a coherent visual identity for an individual release. Boneface’s illustrations serve as the album artwork, music videos and live visuals. A consistent motif through the artwork are the carrion crows which are often cut to, representing the decay of the world Boneface creates. Here, the birds are a reminder of death.
